Zurich is currently searching for an Application Developer I to work in our IT Strategy & Application Development team. This position will be out of our headquarter office in Schaumburg, IL.  

 

IT Application Developer will Analyze customers' needs and design, document, test, and develop software as required, according to installation standards, procedures, and conventions, to deliver solutions which meet business requirements.

 

Responsibilities may include, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

 

  • Codes instructions for computer programs/objects/components; configures packaged applications.
  • Documents and implements programs according to installation standards, procedures, and conventions.
  • Troubleshoots program code, related objects, and documentation to resolve application issues.
  • Prepares and executes Unit Test plans and documents results.
  • Investigate and assess internal client technical issues related to assigned software and hardware systems and manage each case to a successful resolution, working in conjunction with IT colleagues and directly with internal customers where necessary.
  • Follow defined security policies and guidelines to ensure information security and highlight any potential discrepancy.
  • Document outages, errors and any other customer or service issues, administer actions to resolve service problems and perform incident, problem, and escalation management for own area of responsibility.
  • Review and analyze IT project performance using standard reporting tools and highlight discrepancies against plan.
  • Undertake investigations and inspections of IT data, processes, practices, and incidents in accordance with established procedure to identify potential or actual compliance issues and recommend appropriate action.
  • Independently collate and analyze data using pre-determined tools, methods and formats and make recommendations to support the decision-making process in own area of IT.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors Degree and no prior experience required in the Programming or Systems Analysis area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Programming or Systems Analysis area

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Programming
  • Business / System Analysis
  • Java, C# or any modern programming language
  • Algorithms and object-oriented design
  • Complex data structures (maps, lists, etc.)
  • Scripting
  • Understanding of Agile / Devops practices
  • Web-based applications and technologies
  • Application servers : Apache Tomcat etc.
  • Database Servers: Microsoft SQL server
  • HTML, JavaScript, SQL
  • Web Services, XML, Messaging
  • Test-driven development
  • Insurance Industry Experience
