Junior Accountant job at Kirkwood Collection, Beverly Hills

We’re looking for a Junior Accountant to join our fast-growing, fast-paced team. Unlike most opportunities in the hotel industry, you won’t be joining a huge company with a tedious corporate work environment. Our company, Kirkwood Collection, is a family-owned, independently operated luxury hotel brand, but we’re different from most hotels. We find historic properties, often overlooked or underutilized, and we turn them into iconic experiences for the sophisticated and international traveler, reinvigorating the local community and economy in the process. 

We started with the Palm Springs Hotel in 2014 and in the course of five years we’ve grown to six properties across California’s prime vacation destinations. In vibrant Downtown San Luis Obispo, Garden Street Inn is the idyllic vision of historic charm, nestled in central-coast wine country. 97 Lake Shore, in Rancho Mirage, offers a glimpse into California’s leisure class positioned lakefront. Debuting in 2019, Hideaway Santa Barbara and Blue Sands Inn are the premier boutique lodging offerings in both West Beach and East Beach of the American Riviera. Our most recent acquisition, Seven Gables Inn on Monterey Bay is the crown jewel of the portfolio, and a California historic resource. 

In the Junior Accountant position, we’re looking for someone who is independent, eager to learn, and always striving to find better ways to do things. Your day to day work will help us make good decisions and operate our hotels as well as possible. As part of our accounting team, you will have teammates and mentors to help you grow and learn.

This position is based in our Beverly Hills home office, where you’ll be part of a fun and collaborative team. Our team here handles pursuit, due diligence, acquisitions, design development, hotel management, centralized revenue management, and corporate operations, making our scope and properties unequivocally special.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the job include but are not limited to:

• Enter all accounts payable into Sage Intacct (Prepare, record, and process accounts payable and cash disbursement, and accounts receivable and cash receipts.)
• Monitor all finance email accounts for Corporate and Hotel Portfolio. 
• Process accounts payable twice per month. 
• Enter revenue/statistical journals monthly. 
• Reconcile all bank accounts and credit cards
• Organize and collate files for loan debentures as needed.
• Chase down missing receipts for transactions
• Prepare 1099 data annually
• Set up new vendors in Sage
• Work directly with customer support when issues arise
• Sorting, opening, scanning mail; filing into Box Enterprise Repository
• Ensure petty cash reports have the appropriate receipts and approval before submission to Corporate Accounts Payable.
• Ensure hotel cash deposits are correct and deposited on time.
• Ensure guest disputes or chargebacks are handled promptly and correctly.
• Review expense reports for accuracy and proper coding as well as appropriate backup and approval prior to payment.  
• Report and pay occupancy taxes monthly.
• Ensure departmental time tracking reports are completed on time and that deadlines are met.
• Other duties from time to time as assigned by supervisor.
• Assist various departments in accounting issues and queries.

Preferred Experience:

• 2 years: Two years experience in a related role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
• Sage Intacct or equivalent accounting platform preferred
• Experience with WebRezPro or equivalent PMS system (such as Opera)
