Senior Underwriter job at Altmore Capital, McLean

Altmore Capital is a leading specialist lender in the U.S. cannabis industry with a purpose-built team and process to address complex opportunities.  Founded in 2018 and based in the Washington, D.C. metro area, we invest primarily in senior secured term loans to U.S. cannabis operators, in order to protect principal and provide current income to our investors.

We are searching for a highly motivated self-starter who has the ability to work in a growing and fast-paced environment with the initiative to work independently while also providing senior leadership to the Altmore deal underwriting team.  

This position has the opportunity for rapid and long-term professional growth.   The position will be exposed to all deal-side facets of the fund, including deal sourcing, due diligence, structuring, deal execution, portfolio management and fund raising.  Given the lean deal team structure, a positive and team-oriented attitude with attention to detail is a must.  The position has significant authority to lead, shape, and direct the credit underwriting and portfolio management processes.  

The position reports directly to the Managing Partners. 

Responsibilities:

This Senior Underwriter will play a leading role in all aspects of Altmore Capital’s underwriting and portfolio management processes and work with all members of the Altmore team. This person will have primary focus on leading the credit underwriting and diligence process for new transactions, while also helping to identify new investment opportunities and monitor the investment portfolio. Specific responsibilities will include: 

• Lead the investment due diligence and underwriting process, including financial, market, and physical collateral due diligence
• Develop projections and cash flow models to evaluate investment opportunities
• Prepare investment memoranda to support the investment decision-making process
• Participate in transaction related negotiations and analyze transaction documents, including loan agreements, intercreditor agreements, leases, etc.
• Monitor, analyze and report on the financial performance of investments and communicate with operating partners to achieve business plans
• Work with partners to source opportunities, and develop/maintain relationships with the brokerage community

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of credit underwriting experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience leading a team of underwriters
• Highly proficient financial modeling skills including cash flow analyses
• Interest in the fast-growing cannabis industry
• Self-directed, able to work independently, and in a team-oriented environment
• Can work closely with team members of various backgrounds, encouraging different perspectives and feedback to constantly improve product and process
• Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic work environment
• Bachelor’s degree or higher
