Remote DevOps Engineer (Database) job at DNSFilter

Go to careers.dnsfilter.com

DNSFilter was born out of necessity. Our founders realized that the existing solutions for DNS security out there were clunky, convoluted and over priced. In 2015, they set out on a simple yet crucial mission—to revolutionize DNS security. We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings. We support nearly 14,000 organizations, including Fortune 500 customers like NVIDIA, and provide service to millions of end users. Our infrastructure is made up of two anycast networks with over 300 servers in 53 datacenters. At the start of 2020, our software was processing 1B queries/day. One year later, we’re now processing 12B queries/day! In the middle of a global pandemic, our team (and product) thrived. We doubled the size of our team, and we’re looking to do it all over again in 2021.

To ensure a robust and comprehensive infrastructure, we need a DevOps Engineer with specific experience in database reliability, scaling database operations, and who can easily switch between architecting and operating databases. We’re looking for a person with strong problem solving skills who is a tinkerer at heart, takes pride in their work, and is intrinsically motivated to deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Because this position will collaborate heavily with the rest of our remote team, we want a (near) native English speaker who can work within a five hour overlap of EST/EDT.

You will:
  • Architect, setup, monitor and maintain a multi-master/failover/high availability environment
  • Setup performance monitoring and alerting of database systems
  • Assist our development and product teams in designing database queries that will be performant and scalable to meet business and customer needs
  • Plan for database capacity
  • Evaluate new technology and future architecture changes needed to stay ahead of growth
  • Participate in on-call rotation for incidents. On Call participation is part of this role to handle system emergencies
  • Tackle additional tasks outside of your core specialization in order to meet the team commitments

You have:
  • At least 4-7 years of experience developing, maintaining, and scaling data services
  • Designed and maintained high availability / failover environments across multiple datacenters
  • Demonstrated expertise in PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB or ClickHouse
  • Experience working with Postgres extensions (like pglogical)
  • An understanding of networking and networking protocols (DNS, wireshark, anycast, etc)

Bonus points:
  • Background in System Administration or DevOps with strong Linux experience
  • Some experience with bare metal servers
  • Working knowledge of or experience with Ansible
  • Experience working with Docker/Containerization, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Redis, Kafka
  • Self-starter who operates independently while being collaborative with the broader team
  • Strong work ethic—someone who does whatever it takes to get the job done right

We Offer:
  • A 100% work-from-home position with a company that values and fosters personal and professional growth
  • Passionate and intelligent colleagues who work hard and have a good time doing it
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible Vacation Policy
  • Stock Options
  • Full medical, dental, and vision benefits for US Based Employees
  • Full short-term disability and life benefits; available long-term disability
  • (Post-pandemic) in person Annual Gatherings. Last time we all spent a week on a beach in Colombia
