SOVAH Health - Martinsville

Point-of-contact for Radiology support staff.  Responsible for making corrections to medical reports and typing departmental correspondence as requested.  Schedules procedures with patient and/or physician’s office, providing physician’s offices and patients with preps and instructions, prior to exams. Assists RSA staff with duties when necessary.  Assists with family and visitors and contacts on call staff. Participates in Quality Improvement and practices Infection control according to hospital policies.

Composes, types, and transcribes correspondence, forms, reports, presentation materials and other written communications.

Monitors Radiology transcription and corresponds with off-site transcription supervisors.

Monitors ED call log.

Ensures accuracy of Radiology requisition and orders.

Monitors Radiology patient wait time.
Receives, screens, and routes visitors and telephone calls. Responds to, escalates, and follows up on inquiries and problems as appropriate.

Maintains files and office equipment.

Assists Radiologists with transcription/report issues.

Delivers “discrepancy” form with Radiology report to ER physicians daily

Burns images onto CDs from the PACS system for mailout or patient/courier pickup.

Assists staff physicians with PACS system and routes questions/issues to PACS/RIS Administrator.



Job Requirements:

Minimum Education
High School graduate or equivalent. College course in medical terminology preferred
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Advanced computer skills necessary; type 35 words per minute with high degree of accuracy. Possess good communication skills and adapt well to changing work demands.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting for long periods of time. Dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Standing and/or ambulating for short periods of time.

Minimum Work Experience
Secretarial/clerical experience desired; experience with Microsoft Office software desired.
