Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership of Optum Advisory Services to drive rapid and sustained profitable growth in the payer and provider markets and the broader healthcare ecosystem
  • Innovate, adapt and drive emerging business models and services in the dynamic healthcare market and ecosystem
  • Deliver exceptional client satisfaction
  • Build relationships and provide leadership to practice/solution leaders within OAS. Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team to ensure peak performance
  • Drive long term strategy, sales and profitable revenue growth for Optum Advisory Services as well
  • as sales that result in broader growth across Optum’s portfolio of products and services
  • Balance leadership responsibilities while remaining market facing and spending 50+% of time in client facing activities with primary focus on developing the market, driving growth and creating large OAS and cross-Optum opportunities
  • A people developer, with proven skills motivating, leading and developing a strong bench of up and coming consultants
  • Showcase an entrepreneurial and creative spirit with the vision and courage to challenge the status quo yet also create scalable, standardized consultancy offerings
  • Work to recruit, retain and develop a talented and eminent leveraged workforce with a high level of employee engagement
  • Create a diverse, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies
  • Serve in an advisory role to clients on business strategy, operational effectiveness, and healthcare best practices
  • Develop the market for OAS services and leverage your personal network to identify new clients and expand existing client business in the Payer and Provider markets
  • Demonstrate leadership in the ability to cultivate internal and external relationships
  • The CEO, Optum Advisory Services will report to the COO, OptumInsight

Required Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of extensive Healthcare Payer / Provider market experience
  • 10+ years of leadership in a Professional Consulting Organization, performing large deal sales and consulting services to strategic external clients.
  • Experience managing a P&L of over $250 million.
  • Strong demonstration of building long term relationships across the “C” suite with payer / provider market clients
  • Proven engagement with clients (boards, executives, and physicians), and ability to provide valuable insights and logical explanations when faced with difficult questions and uncertainties
  • Sales and growth orientated with a track record of success growing profitable business
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen - thoroughly understands the financial drivers and levers of the Healthcare Payer and Provider businesses and the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Ability to think strategically, proven experience laying out strategy, innovating business models, developing products and / or services from ground up that are sold in the commercial market
  • Proven problem-solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)
  • Personal network for C - Suite executives in the Payer and / or Provider markets
  • Industry recognized leader with proven track record of speaking engagements and/or healthcare industry publications
  • Exceptional client delivery and program management - strong complex program management, P&L management, large scale program oversight and delivery
  • Strong ability to influence and motivate
  • Experience writing and executing business plans for new consulting solutions
  • Proven ability to collaborate, work and manage in a matrixed environment and market structure.
  • A collaborative and inclusive leader who is driven to succeed in accordance with Optum’s Core Values while working within our structure
  • Ability to travel up to 75%
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage global and matrixed delivery models

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in business and/or healthcare or Doctor of Medicine
  • Big 4 consulting experience

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $375,000 to $450,000. The role is also eligible to participate in UHG’s annual bonus and long term incentive plans.
