About VantAI:

VantAI is building the next chapter of Induced Proximity – leveraging innovative geometric deep learning approaches to co-opt the cell's most powerful systems against human disease. We work together with some of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical companies to generate, test, and optimize novel therapeutics, focusing on targets that have traditionally been considered un-druggable.

Job Brief:

We are looking to hire an experienced professional as Director of Strategic Projects to help grow VantAI into the world’s foremost ‘Induced Proximity’ company. In this role you will report directly to the CEO and will work closely with both the CEO and CTO, as well as various client stakeholders, to establish the next chapter of strategy, operations, and organizational design for VantAI.

In this role, you will be extremely hands-on and involved in day-to-day strategy and operations, as well as being responsible for maintaining control of diverse and scientifically complex business and strategic projects (including ongoing client collaborations with some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies). Together with the CEO and CTO, you will drive the future of an ML-infused biotech during a key growth phase. This position will require you to have an outstanding sense of ownership, initiative, high EQ, business acumen, and a strong work ethic. Most importantly, you must be able to interface with a deeply R&D centric culture and be capable of helping functional leaders prioritize across many competing initiatives and projects.

The goal of this position is to take a leading role to maximize the speed and quality with which VantAI develops novel, innovative medicines, by expanding and building our strategic scope, keeping client projects and internal R&D initiatives on track, and ensuring extensive and sustainable growth towards company milestones.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop VantAI vision and future together with CEO and CTO
  • Define, drive and own VantAI strategic initiatives across science, client management, talent operations and business
  • Help strategically develop and drive increased operational excellence across all VantAI business areas, including current internal pipeline projects and R&D initiatives, external client pipeline projects, strategic external collaborations, and the hiring and recruiting required to developing VantAI into the industry leader in Machine Learning-driven ‘Induced Proximity’
  • Leading progress and hands-on management of relationships with important client projects
  • Establishing policies that promote company culture and vision
  • Lead relationships with CROs, partners, and vendors across highly diverse topic areas (e.g., chemical synthesis CROs, wet-lab experiment CROs, boutique life sciences experiment partners)
  • Identify CRO, data providers, and other collaborations that have the ability to support initiatives in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Work with the CTO to oversee technical operations regarding platform maintenance and interface with IT
  • Work collaboratively with experts from other fields (e.g., medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, machine learning) to determine optimal “next steps” to push discovery programs forward

Requirements:

  • Proven strategic and operator experience in biotechnology and technology sectors, ideally in a startup environment
  • Deep content knowledge and experience at the intersection between biotechnology and technology
  • Ability to provide thought leadership by implementing best practices and collaborating with company leaders, even in domain areas outside current expertise
  • +1-3 years of senior leadership experience in industry with ideally one or more of the following:
  • Previous experience in startup operations and strategy, pharmaceutical operations and strategy, management consulting (i.e., McKinsey/BCG/Bain), venture capital, or private equity
  • Significant experience as a high achiever at venture-backed biotechnology or technology startups
  • Relevant technical education such as:
  • Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology fields
  • Higher technical education (MSc, PhD) is a plus
  • Experience managing projects and teams in a tech environment (e.g., big tech or within a technology startup)
  • Exposure to industry R&D workflows and decision making
  • Quick and scrappy learner who adapts well to a fast-moving environment and gets things done – combining creativity, problem-solving skills, and a can-do attitude to overcome any obstacle
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with a strong desire to work in cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development
