Position Summary

Supports the Education Department staff and students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts individual review of new student academic records, including transcripts,withdrawals, IEPs, eligibility, etc.
  • Supports academic achievement through course planning, creating student schedules and transcripts.
  • Coordinates with school staff to provide supportive instructional classroom activities that relate to student academic and behavioral needs.
  • Assists with administration of standardized testing as Lead Testing Coordinator
  • Serves as the District Parent Family Engagement Liaison and facilitates PFE activities on campus.
  • Participates in professional development activities by engaging in professional growth activities and by applying newly acquired professional knowledge
  • Intervenes during crisis situations
  • Available to students, parents, and staff for conferences according to system policies
  • Facilitates home-school-community communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communication
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and student records
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, other support personnel, teachers, and parents
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly
  • Takes precautions to protect student health and safety as well as records, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Knowledgeable of academic, behavioral, physical and mental health needs of students
  • Knows and uses, when applicable, principles of behavior management
  • Conducts classroom observations and provides timely feedback to teachers
  • Provides support and assistance to all core content classroom teachers in the implementation of Georgia Standards of Excellence
  • Assists teachers in facilitating an engaging classroom environment that meets the needs of all learners and their varied learning styles.
  • Provides on-site Professional Development and facilitates Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to ensure teachers are knowledgeable about effective interventions and implementation of Georgia Standards.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate sources such as those who assist agencies and families to complete the special education and disabilities eligibility processes
  • Consults with teachers using Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) on causes of inappropriate student behavior and progress of students.
  • Demonstrates cooperative relationships with fellow staff members
  • Serves as a member of the Student Support Services team, which is made up of Therapists, Teachers, School Social Worker and School Psychologist

Education Requirements

Degree in Education (Master’s preferred), Other Degrees to be considered: Social Work, Drug

and Alcohol Education or Counseling, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Guidance Counseling,

Human Services, or Marriage and Family Therapy.

Certification & Licensure Requirements

Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate (T-5 or above preferred)

Experience Requirements:

3 or more years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience

Physical Demands – Additional Information

  • Frequently remains in stationary position for periods of time.
  • Regularly needs to move throughout office to access file cabinets and office machinery.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as calculator, copy
  • machines, and printer.
  • Frequently moves, ascend/descend, and traverse.
  • Constantly must be able to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, and exchange
  • information with clients and families regarding their therapy and care.
  • Frequently needs to be able to recognize, judge, and observe clients as well as client
  • homes in regards to behavior and safety of surroundings.
  • Occasionally participates in physical intervention and restraint of client, being able to
  • hold 40+ pounds for a minimum of 15 minutes
