We are seeking an empathetic Design Researcher to join our cross-functional design studio to reimagine the omni-channel communications experience. We are looking for someone with experience scoping, planning, recruiting, leading, synthesizing, and sharing human-centered design research. Our team recognizes the power of design research to inform both strategic and tactical design decisions, from broad discovery research to targeted usability testing. Creating foundational design systems requires a Design Researcher who is a systems-thinker with an entrepreneurial mindest.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Transform complex quantitative and qualitative data and insights into visual displays to more effectively tell the story and advance understanding relative to consumer needs throughout the project lifecycle
  • Strive to develop and institute best practices to present information in a way that supports visual thinking fostering efficient and effective understanding with a minimum of conscious effort by a broad range of audiences  
  • Meet with stakeholders to craft a lean and effective research plan
  • Conduct qualitative research grounded in the context of the people for whom we are designing
  • Conduct quantitative research that obtains statistical significance
  • Articulate the rationale for using one research method over another
  • Use creativity and resourcefulness to tailor research according to project constraints
  • Design experiments that measure and compare performance of new services, processes, or digital designs
  • Be passionate about healthcare, social impact and great design
  • Be familiar with the human-centered design process and the role research can play throughout
  • Have ability to navigate large data sets and “connect the dots” among the insights they yield across complex systems
  • Create frameworks, exhibits, videos, and presentations that visualize findings
  • Conduct remote research and collaborate with a distributed team

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in research or adjacent field
  • Experience partnering with data or analytics teams
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing academic research
  • Experience conducting competitive intelligence research
  • Experience using quantitative data to generate segmentation models or personas
  • Experience analyzing large-scale data, such as NPS surveys or customer verbatims
  • Experience working with user research tools such as Feedback Loop, MUIQ, and UserTesting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in healthcare
  • Proven track record of driving change in a large, complex matrixed environment even amid ambiguous circumstances
  • Bias toward action and innovative big-picture thinking while improving processes and optimizing operations
  • Willingness to invest time to understand our target markets, and consumers, and demonstrate a willingness to change course
  • Ability to shift seamlessly from strategic to tactical
  • Operational excellence training
  • Passion for social impact, healthcare, collaboration and learning
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills. Strong presentation and facilitation skills, suitable for executive leadership level
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities 
  • Ability to provide portfolio of authored research artifacts for review

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
