The Senior Business Operations Coordinator will obtain accurate records, patient demographic and insurance information in the billing and PAI systems for multiple units. Works on multiple platforms to obtain benefit verification and authorization from insurers to facilitate prompt and appropriate payment for hospital services. Collects payments and educates patients about the Financial Assistance program.

This position is full – time (37.5 hours / week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 9:00am – 5:00pm, Weekdays. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime, weekends, and holidays. Our office is located at 400 Lakeville Rd. New Hyde Park, NY 11042.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communicates professionally and courteously with patients and family members while obtaining or clarifying demographic information and / or insurance benefits and / or financial responsibility
  • Communicates the hospitals collection policy and collects self – pay and copay obligations
  • Utilizes Health Pay 24 to collect payments
  • Educates uninsured / under insured patients about the financial assistance program
  • Utilizes PAI system to complete complex elective, urgent and / or preregistration work lists of accounts
  • Contacts insurers to verify patients’ insurance benefits, utilizes insurance websites and other means of electronic insurance verification (HDX) to obtain all information necessary for securing patient accounts. (Coordination of benefits, benefit coverage, limits, copay / deductible amounts, and authorization)
  • Secures authorizations for admissions and procedures when necessary
  • Insures high quality information is recorded in systems at all times

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of customer service experience, primarily utilizing the phone to contact customer with regard to services or products
  • Data Entry experience with displayed accuracy in noting documentations
  • Ability to use a Windows PC and learn new and complex computer systems easily
  • Experience using phone and computer as primary tools to complete work on a daily basis
  • Experience in insurance verification, pre – registration, and patient intake in a medical setting
  • Ability to work (37.5 hours/week) an 8-hour shift during the business hours of 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday including the flexibility to work occasional overtime and holidays given the business need
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in payment collections
  • Previous experience in the healthcare and / or health insurance industry

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to communicate well and effectively interact with patients and families over the phone
