Vice President, Emerging Manager Practice Relationship Manager - Bay Area

SVB’s Emerging Manager (EM) Practice is focused on building relationships with emerging venture capital firms and key ecosystem partners across the U.S. to improve their probability of success. The team plays an active role within the industry acting as trusted advisors, building a supportive ecosystem for the investor community and their portfolio companies. Our team develops and maintains consultative relationships with clients plus relevant centers of influence in the ecosystem and are responsible for business development efforts across SVB’s platform, while working proactively to develop value add solutions that go beyond banking helping investors achieve their business goals. Our practice is looking to add a relationship manager to engage with emerging managers in the Bay Area.


Role Description


  • Seeking a relationship management professional with experience in the venture capital industry to join our team
  • Responsible for building, maintaining, and engaging strategic relationships within the investor community to help scale and grow SVB’s businesses
  • Opportunity to work on small team to define and develop strategic initiatives in the market and across SVB Platform
  • Maintain deep understanding of SVB’s platform and products and anticipate client’s needs for delivering these products as appropriate
  • Based in the Bay Area., the candidate is already active in the local ecosystems, with an existing, and growing network of investors, influencers, and relevant stakeholder relationships


Role Scope


  • Responsible for engaging investors and ecosystem leaders located in the Bay Area, specifically with influential Emerging VC managers that drive new client acquisition across the SVB platform
  • Develop ways to connect with next generation EMs with relevant sources of capital
  • Create programming, events, and content for local investor communities to support team goals and build connectivity within ecosystem
  • Serve as key partner to internal colleagues across the Commercial Bank and broader SVB Platform, including SVB Capital, Startup Banking and SVB Private Bank. Collaborate with other senior leaders, advising on market trends and specific, actionable investor insights
  • Ascertain market opportunities with data-driven assessment and build strategic partnerships, establish, and nurture channels, build deep and impactful relationships that help us grow SVB market share and reputation with EMs in emerging markets
  • Drive advocacy in markets, collaborating with regional and national teams to bring awareness to evolving investor ecosystems and opportunities for SVB


Qualifications


  • 5 years experience in the innovation and/or investor community
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience
  • Candidate should have a demonstrated interest in the venture capital community and an innate curiosity and the ability to uncover the needs and interests of strategic investors
  • Strong relationship management skills and can develop authentic relationships with the most influential and impactful venture firms in the startup ecosystem
  • Strong analytic and leadership skills. Able to meet targets and measure return on investment. Data driven. Capable of using both data and intuition to deliver results
  • Ability to prioritize tasks with effective time management in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work in a team environment and comfortable working independently
  • Knowledge of banking products and operations for venture funds or startups is a bonus
