The Lower Brule Indian Health Center is seeking a qualified Contract Registered Pharmacist to support and maintain vital pharmaceutical services. The primary mission of this role is to provide the best possible healthcare services to the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and all other qualified Native American patients. The pharmacist will perform comprehensive pharmacy services comparable to a rural civilian practice and will occasionally be required to work independently as the sole pharmacist on duty.

$208,000 - $228,800 a year

Location: Lower Brule Indian Health Center (IHS), 601 Gall St., Lower Brule, SD 57548

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prescription Processing & Dispensing: Read medication orders, accurately enter and process prescriptions using the facility's Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, attach appropriate prescription and auxiliary labels, and dispense medications to patients.
  • Clinical Review & Safety Check: Check all prescription orders for completeness, appropriateness, and patient allergies. Review orders for potential drug-drug and food-drug interactions,and assess patient renal function.
  • Patient Counseling: Appropriately and effectively counsel patients of all ages regarding their medications.
  • Formulary Compliance: Ensure that all prescribed medications are on the Lower Brule Service Unit formulary.
  • Provider Collaboration: Interact with clinical staff to solve medication ordering and delivery issues. Clarify incomplete, inappropriate, non-formulary, or allergy-risk medication orders directly with the prescribing practitioner before filling. Provide instructions to prescribers regarding medication substitutions.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and complete records for all controlled medications.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in clinic-based quality improvement programs consistent with AAAHC requirements to monitor and evaluate the quality of care.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Must be a graduate of a school of pharmacy approved by a state-accrediting agency.
  • Licensure: Must possess a current, active, and unrestricted pharmacist license from any of the 50 US states, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
  • Experience: Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a pharmacist within the past 36 months. Previous experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) is required.
  • Certifications: Must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and maintain continuing education.
