Our Ways of Working
Babylist is a remote-first company with team members across the U.S. and Canada who move fast, think smart, and use AI as part of how they work every day.
This role specifically is full-time and based on-site at our New York showroom in SoHo. The schedule is flexible based on business needs and requires evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
This role requires a 4-week training period in June at our Beverly Hills showroom.
What the Role Is
Babylist is opening a brand new showroom in SoHo, and we're hiring an Assistant Store Manager to help lead it. This space is where expecting parents come to see, touch, and test baby products in person, build their registries, and experience Babylist in real life. It's genuinely one of the most fun retail environments you'll find: guests are excited, the product is interesting, and the energy is warm.
You'll be a core leader on the floor every shift. That means coaching the team in real time, jumping into guest interactions, managing zone coverage and staffing, and keeping the space running smoothly. When the Showroom Manager is out, you step in and own it. This role also supports three dedicated pop-up spaces with brand activations and events happening regularly, so you'll need to be comfortable balancing floor operations with external partners in the space.
This is floor-first leadership. If you do your best work behind a desk, in back-of-house, or through spreadsheets, this won't feel right. If you come alive when you're on the floor with your team and guests, this is the role. There are no sales goals, no commission, and no holiday madness. You'll work 8-hour days with one weekend off per month, and success is measured by guest experience, team development, and operational consistency.
Who You Are
- 4+ years of retail leadership experience, including direct responsibility for hiring, scheduling, coaching, and managing frontline teams
- Comfortable as the second-in-command who steps up to run the showroom and make real-time decisions when the Showroom Manager is out. You've acted as manager-on-duty and can speak to it with confidence.
- NYC retail instincts. You know the market, the clientele, and the pace. Not a recent transplant.
- Proven ability to coach and develop retail teams through in-the-moment feedback, not just scheduled 1:1s. You've handled difficult conversations including performance issues and conflicts.
- Experience with POS and inventory management systems (Shopify POS, Lightspeed, or similar), able to operate independently and train others.
- Hands-on experience supporting brand activations, pop-ups, or in-store events. You understand that hosting external teams in your space is a shared responsibility, not someone else's problem.
- You're curious about AI and open to using it to improve team operations and the guest experience.
How You Will Make An Impact
- Run the showroom floor day-to-day, ensuring every guest has a high-quality, consistent experience from the moment they walk in.
- Act as manager-on-duty when the Showroom Manager is out, owning operations and decision-making for the full space.
- Coach and support showroom staff in real time, improving service quality and team performance shift by shift.
- Execute staffing plans, zone coverage, and shift assignments to ensure strong floor coverage at all times.
- Maintain visual merchandising and product presentation standards across all areas, including three dedicated pop-up spaces.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and training of Brand Ambassadors and Shift Leads as the team scales.
- Partner on in-store events, activations, and VIP experiences that bring the Babylist brand to life in the NYC market.
