Data Analyst
Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director, Innovation Platform, the Data Analyst will be the Innovation team’s primary builder of dashboards, analytics, and data infrastructure. The Innovation team runs a national platform called Science to Venture (S2V) that partners with universities and regional ecosystems to translate federally-funded research into startups. This role makes it possible for the team to track venture progress, measure the effectiveness of our tools and training programs, report on portfolio performance to leadership and government customers, and continuously improve the systems that underpin our work. The ideal candidate is energized by turning messy data into clear insights and is comfortable picking up new tools quickly in a small team where their contributions are immediately visible.
Responsibilities

Build and maintain dashboards that track venture progress, readiness level progression, and portfolio performance across the S2V program; produce reports and analytics for internal leadership and customers

Maintain taxonomies for technology sectors, venture stages, and intervention types to enable consistent reporting and trend identification across the portfolio

Maintain and improve the team’s existing AI-powered assessment tools by fixing bugs, building features, and improving data quality primarily through AI-assisted coding

Build lightweight internal utilities and integrations to reduce manual data handling and improve data integrity

Track KPIs for the team, support recurring reporting cadences for quarterly reviews and retrospectives

Identify patterns in portfolio data such as which interventions or training approaches correlate with venture success and surface insights to inform team decision-making
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, computer science, information systems, business analytics, or a related field

Proficiency with analytical tools and techniques for working with datasets (Excel, Python, R, SQL, or similar)

Comfort building with AI tools; experience using LLMs or AI-assisted coding environments to generate, test, and iterate on code is strongly preferred. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for working with the team's existing web-based tools.

Strong written and visual communication skills with the ability to turn data into clear narratives for non-technical audiences

Experience or familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
